SMAAFS Assessment
Structured Maths Approach is a unique scope & sequence linking specifically to the New Zealand Curriculum.
It was evident from the beginning of putting together Structured Maths Approach that an assessment was integral to its creation. Assessment is behind all that teachers do and help shape our lessons, goals, next steps, feedback, reporting, OTJ's and so much more. I knew that it was something that was going to be vital in helping teachers successfully find where students are working, but also be confident in where they are with the curriculum going forward.
In the interim, the current assessments were created as a place holder for this. Something that you can use already to give you that snapshot to where students are and what they need next. Over the past nine months, I have been working together with teachers currently using Structured Maths Approach to create this assessment - SMAAFS. Structured Maths Approach Assessment For Students.
How does SMAAFS work?
The great thing about this assessment is it was designed with Structured Maths Approach specifically in mind. This provides you with detailed information and understanding of where your students are working, their gaps, which aspect those gaps are appearing, which phase they are currently working in and which phase to work on next. This assessment provides you with decision tables to help you easily find where students are working and to help you with reporting accurate data that is linked explicitly to Structured Maths Approach and also the curriculum.
This assessment comes with:
- Student recording sheet
- Teacher Guide
- Assessment Slides for delivering the assessment
- Assessment trackers on Google Sheets
This assessment can be done at the beginning of the year to give you baseline data, the middle of the year to check on progress and then the end of the year. It can be continued on every year as the students move onto their next class or year level; with a cover page to show growth and checkpoint movement over the time the student uses Structured Maths Approach. This makes it handy to see where students are improving and areas of next steps.
