Structured Maths Approach Rich Tasks Problem Solving
Structured Maths Approach is designed to build a strong foundation through explicit instruction, a systematic scope and sequence, and using the gradual release of responsibility model. Rich tasks problem solving fit perfectly into this framework as the purposeful application of these skills. They allow students to take the tools they’ve mastered through structured lessons and apply them to open-ended, real-world problems.
SMA provides the consistency, daily review, and small steps that build student confidence and reduce anxiety. Rich tasks problem solving then provide the opportunity for productive struggle, where students can stretch their thinking in a supportive, structured environment. Together, they develop capable mathematicians who aren't just proficient with numbers, but are flexible, confident problem solvers ready for any challenge.
Our tasks can be completed independently, in buddies or pairs, small groups or even larger groups. Flexible to use as you need. You can use the LEAP acronym model to help facilitate your learning task if you want a structure to follow.
This resource includes:
- six rich task problems to solve in your classroom.
- Each task has a lesson plan for the teacher
- A student copy to glue and work on in their books
- Any matching material prompts that suit the lesson
This is a pdf download only and designed to support Year 0-3 learners in a downloadable bundle.
